BIG STORY
SOUTH AFRICA Remembering the Struggle
The Museum of People's Struggle is the first of five new buildings to be constructed over the next seven years to form the Red Location Cultural Precinct in the Township of New Brighton, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality in South Africa. 'Red Location' was the first settled Black Township of Port Elizabeth. It was established in 1902 at the end of the Anglo/Boer War and takes its name from a series of corrugated iron barrack buildings, which are rusted a deep red colour. It became a site of struggle during the years of Apartheid beginning in 1948..
